Berlin Fashion Week: Preview Spring 2011 Trends
Berlin Fashion Week ended on July 11, 2010 leaving Fashionistas across the globe with a glimpse into which trends are continuing into Spring and which trends are making their worldwide debut. Bay Area Fashionistas will be happy to know that many of the trends and fashions shown for Fall 2010 and Spring 2010 are still going strong for Spring/Summer 2011; according to the Berlin runways.
The Berlin Spring/Summer 2011 runways gave a nod to Fall 2010 with splashes of black, red and grey. Bay Area Fashionistas will be happy to know that the fabric which was born in San Francisco dotted the Berlin runways. Denim was a standout in cropped, cuffed, slim fitting pant styles as well as vests and jackets. The silhouettes on the runways were long and lean, harkening us back to the 1970's; as well as Fall 2010! The 1950's silhouette continued to be shown on dresses and skirts in softer pastels. The safari look continues into Spring/Summer 2011 reminding Fashionistas everywhere that an investment in a safari jacket will pay off in spades. The military jacket also looks to continue into Spring.Summer 2011. The cropped leather jackets that were all over the Fall runways, are making an appearance for early Spring 2011 with 3/4 length sleeves.
The hot, new trend Berlin introduced us to were amazing feather hats. The feather hats were rather theatrical as they wrapped around the heads of models. This gives us a sneak peak into where designers may go with toppers as we move towards Spring. We could see feather accents on hats and more sedate versions of what appeared on the runway.
There was a large amount of beadwork on casual and dressy fashions during Berlin Fashion Week. Beaded accents adorned the shoulders and edges of tee-shirts, blouses and dresses. The standout jewelery piece during the shows was the long necklace with a large pendant. This necklace style is reminiscent of the necklaces on every Fashionista in the mid-nineties. There were also many pieces made with sheer chiffon and feminine pastels.
Berlin Fashion Week gave us a hint of what we may see for Spring.Summer 2011. It should be interesting to see what designers around the world give us as every city cycles through their shows. This glimpse into the trends of Spring 2011 allows Fashionistas in the Bay Area the ability to decide which of the current trends to invest in, and which to steer clear of. This will be another great season to shop your closet. Happy shopping and stay fabulous!
