Gucci 1973 Handbag is the "IT" Shoulder Bag for Fall 2010!

The Gucci 1973 shoulder bag is definitely the "it" handbag for Fall 2010! This beautiful shoulder bag is the re-incarnation of the popular style which Gucci introduced in 1973. The 1973 handbag has a long strap and hits at the hip. There is a flap over the body of the bag allowing easy access while shopping or reaching for a cell phone.

There is something nostalgic about the 1973 handbag from Gucci. The style was the essential handbag design of the 1970s and every woman in the San Francisco Bay Area wore a purse such as this, draped carelessly over her shoulder. In the 1980s the 1973 handbag style was considered vintage and worn by women in the Bay Area who were still entrenched in the 1970s lifestyle of politics, hot tubs and anti-establishment views. Many women had owned the purse since the 1970s while others scoured vintage shops and even Goodwill to find the handbag. The most common color worn in the Bay Area was weathered brown. The leather looked more like it had been used for a baseball glove rather than to make a handbag. Although the long strap left the shoulders of Fashionistas by the mid-nineties, it has been creeping back into handbag fashion over the last few seasons. Fall 2010 is definitely the season for the long strap handbag and Gucci is leading the way for it's comeback!

Out of the three main trends for Fall 2010, Minimalism1950s chic  and the 1970s silhouettes , this handbag will pair best with the 1970s styles of bootcut trousers and long, slim dresses. Gucci is introducing the 1973 handbag with black and brown leather in addition to fabulous exotics. The black 1973 Gucci handbag will also pair nicely with the Minimalism from the 1990s. Imagine an all black outfit, black 1973 Gucci handbag and a red coat! Fabulous!

Gucci's 1973 handbag is definitely the "IT" handbag this Fall for Fashionistas who prefer a shoulder bag. If Gucci is out of your budget, this is another great time to search the vintage shops in the Bay Area for a similar style. Gucci also has a certified vintage store  on their website where you can feel safe buying a gently used Gucci that is indeed authentic. Happy shopping and stay fabulous!
